7 Day Private Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Private Tour of Barcelona

Sagrada Família in barcelona
Barcelona, Spain

Your fantastic 7-day tour of Spain will begin in Barcelona, the capital of the Catalan region, and one of the most famed and celebrated cities in all of Europe, if not the world.

It is unsurprising to find that Barcelona can be crowded all year round, which is why our private guided experience comes with exclusive skip-the-queue access. Allowing you to truly appreciate the wonder and awe of the incredible architecture and sparkling cultural flourishes that define this incredible city.

Private Tour of Modernist Barcelona, Sagrada Familia, & Gaudi’s architectural wonders

The work of Antonio Gaudi is simply emblematic of Barcelona. Perhaps no other city in the world has had its spirit captured by one master in the way that his iconic works have become shorthand for the effervescent, vivacious character of Barcelona.

Your private guide and driver for the day will bring the history of Barcelona to life as your eyes gaze upon outstanding works of uniquely Catalan Modernism. From the main avenue Paseo de Gracia to the Guell Park which houses some of the most classical and world-renowned works of Gaudi, and ultimately a private tour of the man’s most famous work, La Sagrada Familia.

The Sagrada Família (Sacred Family) is Gaudí’s unfinished masterpiece. His conception of the basilica was based on the traditions of Gothic and Byzantine Cathedrals. He achieved a symbiosis between form and Christian iconography and designed a personal architecture, generated through new but thoroughly logical structures, shapes, and geometries inspired by nature, with light and color also playing a central role. On your private tour, you will visit works not only by Gaudi but of several Spanish masters who have worked on the spellbinding cathedral.

Spend the evening walking the streets and thoroughfares of Barcelona with your private guide, sampling typically Catalan-style tapas and Sangria before returning to your accommodation for the evening.

Day 2: Montserrat & a traditional Catalan winery

monastery and the mountains of Montserrat in Spain.
Montserrat Monastery, Spain

Meet your driver and guide in the lobby of the hotel to start your day trip to one of Catalonia’s most spectacular settings: Montserrat and a traditional Catalan winery.

Montserrat Hill, Monastery & Black Madonna Shrine

Some 50 km away from Barcelona, Montserrat is a unique natural and historic site to visit. The magnificent mountain and its sanctuary are filled with history, legend, and culture. The Monastery is located in a spectacular natural setting which makes the mountain a little paradise, ideal for enjoying nature and the environment, venturing into its corners and landscapes.

Montserrat Hill offers three main points of interest: first, the site itself, which would be worth visiting even if there were nothing else there, as it is one of these very special “power spots” scattered all over the world.

The second point of interest is the Santa María Benedictine monastery, formally founded at the beginning of the 11th century. As it is still a live monastery, only its Basilica is open to visitors.

The third main point of interest is a shrine to a Black Madonna: Our Lady of Montserrat or “La Moreneta” as she is affectionately known all over Catalonia. Black Madonnas are one of Europe’s most mysterious traditions as its origins and full significance has been lost in time.

Private Excursion to Penedès Wine Region

In the afternoon visit the home of Cava sparkling wines: Penedès, one of the most important wine regions of Spain, is just 45 min. drive from Barcelona.

Its undulating hills covered with vineyards are ideally suited to grow grapes: gentle temperatures, right soil conditions, plenty of Mediterranean sunshine and, close enough to the sea to receive extra moisture. The Romans loved it here!

Even though the Penedes produces plenty of good whites, reds, and roses, this tour focuses on the specialty of the region: Cava wine. Cava is the official name for the sparkling wines produced locally following the “Methode Champenoise ”. Penedes produces 99% of the Cava produced in Spain.  At the winery (visit of the premises + commented tasting of 5 Cavas or still wines led by the house expert).

After a full day, your private driver-guide will return you to your accommodation in Barcelona for the evening.

Best of Spain & Portugal

“I urge everyone who values unforgettable vacations to contact Magical Spain and talk to Dan or Rachel.

Beyond the personalized planning and fine 24-7 tour support, we loved the quality and care of the licensed guides, the delicious tapas, the exotic ambiance of Seville and Granada, Madrid’s majesty and art, medieval Toledo, and meeting the olive oil estate owners, artist, chef & winemaker.”

Day 3: Gothic Barcelona Private Tour

Visit Santa Maria del Mar church on Barcelona tour in Spain
Santa Maria del Mar, Barcelona

Your final day in Barcelona will be sure to leave a lasting impression as your private guide delves into the soul of the historic city with you.

The Barri Gótic, or Gothic Quarter is like a living canvas where your guide will explore the many monuments and historic locations dripping in Catalan Gothic style on display. Barcelona’s deep and fractious history will be laid bare for you as you walk on the very ground it happened.

The remains of the Roman Temple of Augustus; the splendor of Romanesque churches and monasteries, perfectly preserved; the outstanding example of Catalan Gothic that is the Church of Santa Maria del Mar; public buildings and palaces of the new social classes that emerged due to the wealth brought by the sea, or the walls that stifled the city.

While we fall in love with its intense history and beautiful scenery in stone, we also want you to discover another reason why Barcelona makes such a must-visit destination: its tapas. With our local expert, you will discover some of the most emblematic and delicious spots, where you will enjoy the local flavor and see why in Spain tapas are more than just eating.

Day 4: Flight Barcelona to Madrid

Almudena cathedral in madrid
Madrid, Spain

Depending on your preference we can arrange for your travel to Madrid by flight (1hr 20 mins) or by high-speed train (2hrs 45 mins).

Guided tour of Madrid City Center

Upon the arrival of your flight to Madrid airport, our driver will be waiting to welcome you! Enjoy a smooth private transfer in a chauffeured minivan to your 5* hotel.

Our upscale clients love the Spanish capital known for its elegant squares, stately Habsburg architecture, leafy boulevards, and superb museums. With your expert private guide, explore the highlights of the city.

Options include world-renowned museums such as the Prado Museum, Reina Sofia, CaixaForum, and/or the Thyssen-Bornemisza. Tour the majestic Royal Palace. Perhaps stroll through the exclusive shopping and residential districts. Or visit historic squares and lively markets, including the gourmet San Miguel Market.

Evening Tour of Madrid

In the evening it’s time to enjoy Madrid the way the Madrileños do! The streets of the center are lined with classy old fashioned tapas bodega’s and stylish bars to enjoy vermouth and a caña (small beer) or two.

Day 5: Driver Guided Tour of Toledo

Toledo day trip in Spain.
Toledo, Spain

Perhaps not the most famous region in Spain, however a day trip to Toledo is perhaps the most illustrative of traditional Spanish culture. Just a short one-hour drive from Madrid, its historic center was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1986. Strolling through the streets with your private guide is the ideal way to be transported through the centuries as you learn more about what historical events and settlements contributed to forging the Spanish culture.

Known as the city of three cultures, Toledo once flourished as a unique center where Jews, Muslims, and Christians lived in harmony. Accordingly, this mix of cultures is reflected in the city’s architecture and layout. Toledo was also home to the painter known as El Greco, and many of his paintings still remain here—including his masterpiece, The Burial of Count Orgaz. See this and other works by El Greco during private touring. Also explore the city’s splendid medieval center, including the elaborate cathedral and the old Jewish quarter.

Your driver-guide will return you to your central Madrid accommodation in the late afternoon.

Day 6: Day trip to Segovia with driver-guide

Aqueduct in Segovia.
Segovia, Spain

Just one year prior to Toledo, Segovia, another perfect getaway spot from Madrid at just over an hour’s drive from your accommodation, became a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1985. A must for history lovers, visiting Segovia and its wonderful landscapes, castles, and historic quarters is truly like stepping into a fairy tale.

We do mean that quite literally, the iconic castle so familiar to us all as the Disney Castle was in fact inspired by the Alcázar de Segovia. Truly a must-visit location for your 7 day Spain vacation.

Segovia’s huge Roman aqueduct is also world-famous as is a Royal estate known as Spain’s little Versailles.  This is a lesser-known gem that our clients frequently cite as one of the unexpected highlights of their guided Spain itinerary.

Before departing to your accommodation you will enjoy an expert-guided walking tour to remember and a reservation in an authentic Castilian restaurant for a meal that is classic in this region, typically with lamb or bush meat.

Day 7: Exclusive Madrid Tour & Flight Home

Food and wine tour.
Exclusive Dining Experience Madrid, Spain

We hope that your flight home will be in the evening, thus enabling us to plan at least one exclusive tour experience for you before it’s time to draw your seven-day itinerary to a close.

By request, further activities can be arranged such as La Liga soccer games, or a tour of the famous Bernabeu arena, home to the most successful team in world soccer, Real Madrid. Alternatively, we can arrange high-class cooking lessons with a private chef, flamenco shows, guided tours of Aranjuez, Chinchon, El Escorial Monastery, or Cuenca.

For those eager for one last taste of intrinsically Spanish artwork then you may consider an art experience centered around Picasso or Sorolla. While for those seeking a final taste of the wonderful Spanish gastronomy then we would send you home on your flight with a satisfied appetite after some fine Michelin-starred dining.

“Outstanding, seamless planning with a very personalized itinerary executed perfectly…..

In Spain, we felt like VIPs as we met the winemakers in La Rioja and Ribera del Duero, the chefs, the village mayor  and flamenco dancer in Sevilla! The unique experiences and memories beat that of 4 or 5 cruises.  We will be back to do Andalucia or Portugal in a few years”
