Great to be back for this travel question for an expert! Dan O’Beirne founder of Magical and resident of Iberia for 2 decades here.
The main obstacle I have seen after planning travel for 20 years is the larger size of Morocco means it takes longer to get around compared to Portugal which is not only smaller but packs many UNESCO listed attractions into concentrated spaces. More on that in a future post.
As such my suggestion would be to choose your priority, and if that is Morocco travel, then consider using most of your time there and then flying into Lisbon for say three nights to finish your trip. The other option would be to flip the script so to speak…
So instead spend the majority of your trip in Portugal and then fly to Marrakesh for three or four nights. I would note that both Lisbon and Marrakesh are very popular and it’s best to book your accommodations ahead of time.
For in-country transport driving a rental car is an option if you are a good driver with have nerves of steel. For example in Portugal you can experience some slightly risky but good drivers who will pass while on a blind curve going uphill! I guess they like the adrenaline?!?
The other option is to hire private driver or public buses or trains if available. I hope this helps and if you have any further questions, let me know.
Carpe Diem,
