Itinerary

Day One
Lisbon: Mouraria, Alfama, Belém, and Pastéis de Belém
Your driver meets you at the airport and brings you to the hotel. Your private guide joins you in the afternoon for a tour that begins in Mouraria, the old Moorish quarter on the slopes below the castle, before continuing into Alfama. From there, the route takes in the Miradouro da Graça and the Cathedral of Santa Maria Maior before heading west to Belém and the Jerónimos Monastery. The visit ends at the original Pastéis de Belém bakery. If desired, tickets to a traditional Fado performance can be arranged for the evening.

Day Two
Sintra, Queluz, and the Cascais Coast
Your private guide takes you first to the Palácio Nacional de Queluz, an 18th-century Baroque and Rococo palace set within formal gardens and closely associated with the Portuguese royal family. From there, the route continues to Sintra, where the historic center and its narrow streets reward a slower pace. Stop at Piriquita for travesseiros, the almond pastries the town is best known for, made here since 1862. The afternoon follows the coastal road to Cascais, with a stop at Boca do Inferno, where the Atlantic meets the cliffs. The day ends back in Lisbon with a private sailing on the Tagus.

Day Three
Évora: Roman Stones and Medieval Streets
Your private guide takes you east from Lisbon into the Alentejo, arriving in Évora, a walled city whose historic center reflects its Roman, medieval, and Renaissance past. The route covers the Roman Temple of Évora, one of the best-preserved Roman temples on the Iberian Peninsula, the Cathedral, and the Igreja de São Francisco, where the Bone Chapel is lined with thousands of human bones and skulls. After the tour, your guide can suggest a restaurant for a traditional Alentejo meal before your driver brings you back to Lisbon.

Day Four
Porto: Lello Bookshop, the Cathedral, and Barredo
Your driver brings you north from Lisbon to Porto. After check-in, your private guide takes you into the city for a first walk through some of Porto’s most distinctive quarters. The afternoon begins at Capela das Almas, whose blue-and-white azulejo façades make it one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks. From there, the route continues to Lello Bookshop before rising toward the Cathedral, where Porto’s oldest layers still come into view. The walk ends in Barredo, descending toward the Douro through narrow alleys, worn stone, hanging laundry, and one of the most textured corners of the historic center.

Day Five
Douro Valley: Port Wine Country
Your private guide takes you east from Porto into the UNESCO-listed Douro Valley, where terraced vineyards line both sides of the river as far as the eye can see. Wine has been produced here for some 2,000 years, and since the 18th century the region's best-known product, Port wine, has been defined and regulated here. The day centers on a visit to a working family wine estate, where the focus is on understanding how Port wine is made before sitting down to taste the results. The afternoon is flexible: a short boat ride on the Douro offers a different perspective on the valley, or your guide can continue into one of the river towns at the heart of the region's wine culture. Your driver brings you back to Porto by early evening.

Day Six
Aveiro and Coimbra: Canals, Art Nouveau, and a Different Fado
Your private guide takes you south from Porto, with a first stop in Aveiro, where a network of canals is still navigated by traditional moliceiro boats, their painted prows one of the region’s defining images. Along the waterfront, early 20th-century Art Nouveau buildings reflect a period of commercial prosperity that set Aveiro apart within Portugal. From there, the route continues inland to Coimbra, where the university has shaped the city since the 13th century. The visit covers the historic university quarter and the Biblioteca Joanina, a Baroque library completed in 1728, known for its gilded woodwork and painted ceilings. Coimbra also has its own Fado tradition, distinct from Lisbon’s in both repertoire and style, and your guide can direct you to places where it is still performed today. Your driver brings you back to Lisbon by early evening.
