All drivers can do is drop you off at Atocha Train Station. The best drivers will get you to the best entrance at the train station so you go into the security line
for the secure (ticketed people only) train departure lounge.
You say adios to the driver, then enter the station & take your luggage and go down the ramp and enter a line for the security check.
It’s usually 2 lines with multiple staff working to check all is well. Just show your passport ID + ticket bar code on your phone / tablet or you may print if desired.
Then you will enter the train station departure lounge — Yes it almost seems the main Madrid train station (estacion Atocha) is organized a bit like a small airport LOL! So you’ll find a few restaurants, stores, bathrooms ect…
So here you’ll look for the multiple monitors that show train departures (salidas) and destinations (destinos) and the correct gate to take another ramp down to the train to load 15 min or so before departure.
At the correct gate you will see RENFE (national train company) train employees who are usually nice people, and will check you ticket and passport once more
