Oars dip into the lake at El Retiro, and Madrid slows to the pace of two. This 10-day honeymoon in Spain then heads south through Andalusia without hurry, from the Prado to Seville’s Alcázar and an intimate flamenco evening. Clifftop Ronda follows, where you stand on the Puente Nuevo as the gorge darkens far below. One evening, dinner can open with manzanilla, the light, dry sherry of Sanlúcar. Granada comes last. By arrangement, you walk the Alhambra’s Nasrid Palaces together after the doors close to the public, and Israel, our Alhambra guide, tells their story where your dates allow. Change any evening or any day, and you pay only for what the two of you want.

Walk the Nasrid Palaces and the Generalife gardens with Israel, Granada.

Study Velázquez’s Las Meninas at the Prado with Ana, an art historian, Madrid.

Watch the Alhambra turn gold at sunset from the Mirador de San Nicolás, Granada.

Hear the heels and handclaps of an intimate flamenco performance, Seville.

Stand on the Puente Nuevo at dusk, more than 100 meters above the Guadalevín, Ronda.

Taste mountain wines at a winery in the Serranía de Ronda, on request.

10-Day Romantic Private Tour of Spain: Madrid, Seville, Ronda and Granada

A Journey Designed Just for You

Our resident experts wrote this itinerary as a starting point, and your planner shapes every day around your interests, pace and travel style.

What do our American travelers say?

Ron and Mary Ellen on their Spain and Portugal honeymoon.

The 10-day romantic Spain itinerary at a glance

The route uses four bases and nine nights: two in Madrid, three in Seville, two in Ronda and two in Granada. You change hotels three times in ten days, and every base gives you at least one full day with no transfer ahead of you. Seville holds the extra night, so the middle of the trip keeps one open day for a park, a kitchen or an e-bike before an evening of flamenco.

One train and two short road days link the bases. A high-speed train runs from Madrid to Seville in about 2 hours 30 minutes, on the line Spain opened in 1992. A licensed driver then takes the road from Seville to Ronda, about 1 hour 45 minutes, and from Ronda to Granada, about 2 hours. No leg between bases needs a flight. On day ten a short domestic flight or the high-speed train connects Granada with Madrid for the flight home.

Spring and autumn suit the route best. Spain’s state weather agency, AEMET, records average daily highs in Seville of about 23°C (74°F) in April and 26°C (79°F) in October, against 36°C (97°F) in July. Granada averages about 21°C (69°F) in April and 23°C (74°F) in October, and Madrid about 18°C (65°F) and 19°C (67°F). Summer and winter departures both work with a different daily rhythm, and our team plans the hours around the season.

Licensed guides we work with on this route include Ana and Alicia in Madrid, Andrés and Rosario in Seville, Sonia in Ronda, and Israel and Rafael in Granada. Each is a highly educated local expert who cares about the people in their group. We request your guides by name, and your planner confirms who leads each day once your dates are set.

Why the route stays in the south

The journey trades breadth for time. It leaves out Barcelona and Toledo, and the nights those cities would take go to Seville and Ronda instead. The choice removes a domestic flight and a hotel change, and it gives the trip a slower second half, with three Andalusian bases no more than two hours apart by road.

Each base carries one shared moment at a named place: a rowing boat on the pond in El Retiro, flamenco in Seville, the Puente Nuevo at dusk in Ronda, and sunset over the Alhambra from the Mirador de San Nicolás. The rest of each day stays loose, and the evenings belong to the two of you, with a table reserved on request. Our article on Córdoba or Ronda between Granada and Seville explains why Ronda earns two nights on a slower route.

Arch from Plaza Mayor opening onto a street in old Madrid

Day One

Madrid: Plaza Mayor and the Literary Quarter at Dusk

Your licensed driver meets you at Madrid-Barajas airport and brings you to a hotel in the historic center, and the afternoon stays free for rest. Toward evening your licensed guide walks the two of you past the Royal Palace, where the royal family holds state ceremonies in a building of 3,418 rooms, to Plaza Mayor, completed in 1619, where 237 balconies look down on the arcades and the bronze statue of Philip III. From there the walk crosses into the Barrio de las Letras. Along Calle de las Huertas, brass letters set into the pavement quote Cervantes, Góngora and Quevedo, and the evening ends with a tasting of tapas and Spanish wines before a dinner table our team reserves on request. Logistics: Madrid-Barajas airport to central Madrid by road with your licensed driver, then an easy evening on foot with your licensed guide.

Toledo's Alcázar and Alcántara bridge reflected in the Tagus at dusk

Day Two

The Prado and a Rowing Boat in El Retiro

The Prado opened to the public in 1819, in a building Juan de Villanueva designed in 1785, and our team books your timed entry for the morning. Where your dates allow, Ana, an art historian, leads the visit around the paintings the two of you care about, from Velázquez's Las Meninas, which he painted in 1656 on a canvas more than three meters tall, to Goya and the Flemish rooms. In the afternoon you walk next door into El Retiro, a royal garden until 1868 and a public park ever since. UNESCO inscribed the Paseo del Prado and the Buen Retiro together in 2021. Near the northern gate, rowing boats circle the Estanque below the semicircular colonnade of the monument to Alfonso XII, and half an hour on the water gives Madrid its shared moment. Logistics: the Prado and El Retiro sit side by side, so the day runs on foot, and your licensed driver collects you for the return to the hotel.

Seville Beyond Unesco

Day Three

By High-Speed Train to Seville

Your licensed driver collects you and your luggage for Madrid's Atocha station. The high-speed line to Seville opened in 1992, in time for Expo '92, and runs about 472 kilometers south through Córdoba to Santa Justa. On arrival a second licensed driver takes you to one of Seville's best-known sites before check-in, a first stop our team keeps as a small surprise. The rest of the day belongs to the two of you. In the evening, where you wish, our team reserves a table, and a glass of manzanilla, the light, dry sherry from the port of Sanlúcar de Barrameda, opens dinner. Logistics: Madrid to Seville by high-speed train, about 2 hours 30 minutes, and a licensed driver meets you at Santa Justa.

A woman in a yellow dress and straw hat walks down a colorful, narrow European street, looking back and smiling—capturing the charm of a Spain & Portugal Private Custom Luxury Tour from Barcelona to Lisbon.

Day Four

Seville: The Alcázar, the Cathedral and the Giralda

UNESCO inscribed Seville's cathedral, Alcázar and Archivo de Indias together in 1987, and your licensed guide spends the day among all three. At the Real Alcázar, King Pedro I built his Mudéjar palace in the 1360s, and the royal family still uses the upper floors when it stays in Seville. The gardens run from the Mercury Pond to the Jardín de las Damas, and the makers of Game of Thrones filmed part of the fifth season here. Next door, the Almohads completed the Giralda, the minaret of the city's great mosque, in 1198. Thirty-five ramps wind up inside the tower, and from the top the rooftops of Santa Cruz spread out below. At its foot, the Patio de los Naranjos keeps the mosque's fountain and its rows of orange trees, and Christopher Columbus lies inside the cathedral. Logistics: a walking day in Seville's old center with your licensed guide, with your licensed driver on call for hotel transfers.

Day Five

Seville Your Way, Then Flamenco

Day five holds one open choice, and your planner arranges it around the two of you. Some couples walk María Luisa Park, which the Infanta Luisa Fernanda gave to the city in 1893, to the Plaza de España, where Aníbal González set a semicircle of tiled alcoves, one for each Spanish province, for the Ibero-American Exposition of 1929. Others cross to Triana for the Mercado de Triana, which has stood since 1823 on the site of the Castle of San Jorge, and a private cooking lesson and lunch with a chef. A guided e-bike ride along the Guadalquivir passes the Torre del Oro, which the Almohad governor of Seville raised in 1220 and 1221 to guard the river. In the evening you take your seats for an intimate flamenco performance, close enough to hear the dancers' heels on the boards and the palmas, the rhythmic handclaps behind the song. UNESCO added flamenco to its intangible heritage list in 2010. Logistics: a day in Seville on foot, by e-bike or in a chef's kitchen with your licensed guide, and a licensed driver for the evening transfer to and from the flamenco venue.

A woman with long hair, holding a wide-brimmed hat, raises her arms while overlooking a sunny hillside city with historic buildings.

Day Six

Seville to Ronda and the Puente Nuevo at Dusk

Your licensed driver takes the road southeast from Seville, about 127 kilometers, and climbs into the Serranía de Ronda. Ronda stands on a plateau about 740 meters above sea level, split in two by El Tajo, a gorge more than 100 meters deep cut by the Guadalevín River. In the late afternoon your licensed guide walks you onto the Puente Nuevo, which its builders completed in 1793. The chamber above the central arch served for years as a prison, and today it holds a small exhibition on how the bridge went up. Then your guide leaves the two of you at the parapet. As the sun drops, shadow fills the gorge first, while the last light holds on the white houses along the rim. Logistics: Seville to Ronda by road, about 1 hour 45 minutes, licensed driver, then a late-afternoon walk with your licensed guide.

Day Seven

Ronda's Old Town and a Mountain Winery

With your licensed guide you cross into La Ciudad, the old quarter on the south side of the gorge, where Ernest Hemingway and Orson Welles spent summers. The lane then drops to the Arab Bridge and the Arab Baths, which date from the 13th and 14th centuries, where horseshoe arches divide the central hall and light falls through star-shaped openings in the vaults. On the way your guide points out the Casa del Rey Moro, an 18th-century house whose name promises a Moorish king it never had. In the afternoon, where it suits the two of you, your licensed driver takes you to a winery in the Serranía de Ronda, a subzone of the Sierras de Málaga designation where vineyards grow between 600 and 1,000 meters above sea level, for a visit and a tasting. Couples who prefer the town keep the afternoon for lunch and a second look at the bridge. Logistics: Ronda on foot with your licensed guide in the morning, and your licensed driver for the winery visit in the afternoon, on request.

Day Eight

Ronda to Granada and Sunset at San Nicolás

Your licensed driver takes the road east, about 179 kilometers, to Granada, the last capital of the Nasrid emirs. In the afternoon your licensed guide leads you up through the Albaicín, the hillside quarter across the Darro River from the Alhambra, which UNESCO added to the Alhambra listing in 1994 for its Moorish street plan of narrow lanes and small squares. The walk ends at the Mirador de San Nicolás, beside a 16th-century church standing on the remains of a mosque. At sunset the walls of the Alhambra, whose Arabic name means the red one, turn gold and then orange against the Sierra Nevada. Where it suits you, our team reserves a dinner table with a view of the Alhambra. Logistics: Ronda to Granada by road, about 2 hours, licensed driver, then an afternoon on foot with your licensed guide.

Day Nine

The Alhambra and the Generalife

Muhammad I, the first Nasrid emir, began the Alhambra on the Sabika hill in 1238. Where your dates allow, Israel, one of our licensed guides in Granada, leads the day, starting at your timed entry to the Nasrid Palaces. In the Court of the Lions, twelve marble lions carry the fountain of the palace Muhammad V began in 1362. The writer Washington Irving stayed in an apartment inside the Alhambra for about three months in 1829, and a plaque marks the rooms where he wrote part of his Tales of the Alhambra, which appeared in 1832. Outside the walls to the east, the Generalife served the emirs as a summer retreat, and in its Patio de la Acequia a long channel of water runs between flowerbeds under arcs of fountain jets. Logistics: our team books the timed entry to the Nasrid Palaces in advance, the visit runs on foot, and your licensed driver handles the transfers to and from the hill.

Day Ten

Departure from Granada

The morning stays free for a coffee in the lower town or a last walk beside the Darro, where the water runs under old stone bridges below the Alhambra walls. Granada's airport, named for the poet Federico García Lorca in 2006, lies about 15 kilometers west of the city, and a direct flight links it with Madrid in about 1 hour 10 minutes. The high-speed train from Granada station reaches Madrid's Atocha in about 3 hours 30 minutes. Either connection brings you back to Madrid for the flight home, and your planner times it around your departure. Logistics: hotel to Granada airport or Granada station by road with your licensed driver, then a direct flight to Madrid, about 1 hour 10 minutes, or the high-speed train, about 3 hours 30 minutes.

What is a good 10-day Spain itinerary for a honeymoon?

A good 10-day Spain itinerary for a honeymoon uses few bases and long stays, so the trip moves at the pace of two people rather than a timetable. This route spends days one and two in Madrid with the Prado and El Retiro, days three to five in Seville with the Alcázar, an open day and flamenco, days six and seven in Ronda with the Puente Nuevo and the old town, and days eight and nine in Granada with the Albaicín at sunset and the Alhambra. It flies in to Madrid, uses one high-speed train and two road days of about two hours, and connects Granada with Madrid on the last morning.

Where should couples go in southern Spain for a romantic trip?

Seville, Ronda and Granada give couples the most evening atmosphere in southern Spain, each in a different register. Seville brings the gardens of the Alcázar, the orange trees of the cathedral courtyard and flamenco after dark. Ronda brings a town on a cliff edge, a bridge over a deep gorge and mountain wineries within a short drive. Granada brings sunset over the Alhambra from the Albaicín and the water courts of the Generalife. Our romantic honeymoon ideas for Spain and our romantic journeys page collect more options for couples.

How many days do you need in Andalusia for a honeymoon?

Seven nights in Andalusia, split across Seville, Ronda and Granada, lets a couple sleep at least two nights in each town and keep most evenings free. This route adds two nights in Madrid at the start, the arrival city for the trip, which brings the total to ten days. A week covers Seville and Granada alone at a comfortable pace. Two weeks adds a third region, such as Barcelona, the Mediterranean coast or Lisbon across the border in Portugal.

This southern route, or the Highlights of Spain 10-day tour?

Both journeys run for ten days and both include Madrid, Seville and the Alhambra, so the choice comes down to pace and range. The Highlights of Spain 10-day tour suits couples who want Barcelona and Toledo in the same trip, with Gaudí, the Mediterranean and a day among Toledo’s three cultures. It adds a domestic flight and one more hotel change. This route suits couples who want a slower south with fewer hotel changes, two nights in Ronda instead of Barcelona, and road days of about two hours between Andalusian towns.

With two more days, the 12-day private luxury tour of Spain combines both ideas, with Ronda and the white villages in the middle and Barcelona at the end. Couples drawn to the sea more than the Alhambra often prefer the 12-day luxury honeymoon in Spain, which pairs Madrid and Barcelona with Mallorca. With a week, the 7-day private tour of southern Spain covers Seville, Córdoba and Granada. All of them start from the Spain destination page, and our team adjusts any of them to your dates.

Who this journey suits

Honeymooners after the wedding who want the planning done and the evenings open. Couples marking an anniversary, whether a first or a fortieth, who prefer three hotel changes to five. Couples returning to Spain who saw Barcelona on an earlier trip and now want Andalusia in depth. Couples who enjoy wine and food, with a tapas evening in Madrid, a chef’s kitchen in Triana and a mountain winery near Ronda on the route. Couples who share an interest in art and architecture, from Velázquez to the Alhambra. Your guide is glad to advise on suitability before booking for anyone who prefers shorter walking days.

The people behind the route

Our team selects top guides based on their experience, knowledge and engaging personalities, not egos. On a trip for two this matters more than usual. In Granada, where your dates allow, Israel, one of our licensed guides, leads the Alhambra day. He paces the Nasrid Palaces around your timed entry and takes the Generalife at the speed the two of you set.

In Madrid, where your dates allow, Ana, an art historian, leads our Prado visits. On this route she builds the morning of day two around the paintings you care about, whether Las Meninas, Goya or the Flemish rooms, and leaves the afternoon for El Retiro. Our guide to highlights of the Prado gives a sense of the collection before you go.

What the 10-day journey costs and what it includes

The 10-day route starts from $9,980 per person, double occupancy. The from-price covers nine nights in deluxe four-star properties selected for comfort, location and service. Five-star luxury properties are available by request. It includes licensed guides for the visits described, a licensed driver for airport, station and road transfers, and timed entry to the Alhambra’s Nasrid Palaces.

Four things move the price: the season, the hotel category and room type, the size of your private party, and the options you choose, such as the winery visit near Ronda, the cooking lesson in Triana or the e-bike ride in Seville. Magical Private Travel maintains excellent ratings on Trustpilot and Google’s independent review platforms.

Frequently asked questions about the 10-day romantic Spain itinerary

How much does a 10-day romantic private tour of Spain cost?

This 10-day route starts from $9,980 per person, based on two people sharing a room. The from-price covers the route as written: nine hotel nights, licensed guides for the visits described and a licensed driver for every road transfer, with the full list of inclusions set out in your written quote. Four things move the price. The season matters most, since hotel rates rise and fall through the year. Five-star hotels raise it, and a suite for a honeymoon or a milestone anniversary raises it further. Party size changes it, because some couples travel with friends or family and share the guide and driver. Added options, such as the winery visit near Ronda or the cooking lesson in Triana, add to it. Our team sends a written quote for your dates before you commit.

When is the best time for a honeymoon in southern Spain?

April to June and September to October suit this route best. Spain’s weather agency, AEMET, records average daily highs in Seville of about 23°C (74°F) in April and 26°C (79°F) in October, and about 36°C (97°F) in July. Granada averages about 21°C (69°F) in April and 23°C (74°F) in October, and Madrid about 18°C (65°F) and 19°C (67°F). Summer departures work well with early starts in Seville and Granada, lunch indoors and evenings outside. Winter brings cooler days and shorter light, and our team plans each day around the season you choose. Spring also brings orange blossom to the Patio de los Naranjos in Seville.

Do we need to book the Alhambra in advance?

Yes, and our team handles it. Every Alhambra ticket including the Nasrid Palaces carries an assigned entry time for the palaces, and the Alhambra’s own ticket office asks visitors to arrive on time for the slot. Visitors buying or collecting tickets at the monument must do so at least one hour before their assigned time. For these reasons our team books the timed entry as soon as you confirm your dates, and your licensed guide plans the rest of day nine around it, with the Generalife and the Alcazaba before or after the palaces. Where your dates allow, Israel, one of our licensed guides in Granada, leads the visit. The sunset view from the Mirador de San Nicolás on day eight needs no ticket, since the viewpoint is a public square in the Albaicín.

Why spend two nights in Ronda?

Two nights give you both an evening and a morning in Ronda, without a suitcase in the way. On day six you arrive from Seville in time to stand on the Puente Nuevo at dusk, with the gorge of the Guadalevín more than 100 meters below. On day seven your licensed guide walks you through La Ciudad and down to the Arab Baths, which date from the 13th and 14th centuries, and the afternoon stays open for a winery in the Serranía de Ronda or lunch in town. Ronda also sits between Seville and Granada, so the stop splits a long cross-country drive into two road days of about two hours each. Our article on Córdoba or Ronda between Granada and Seville compares the two stopovers.

How do we travel between Madrid, Seville, Ronda and Granada?

On this route a high-speed train runs from Madrid to Seville, and a licensed driver covers Seville to Ronda and Ronda to Granada by road. The train takes about 2 hours 30 minutes on the line Spain opened in 1992 and arrives at Santa Justa, where a licensed driver waits. The road day to Ronda runs about 127 kilometers, about 1 hour 45 minutes, and the road day to Granada about 179 kilometers, about 2 hours, each with time for a coffee stop. In every city a driver handles the luggage between station and hotel, so the two of you travel light from door to door. On day ten a direct flight of about 1 hour 10 minutes or the high-speed train of about 3 hours 30 minutes links Granada with Madrid. Our article on Spain’s high-speed trains to Seville explains the rail options in more depth.

Are the guide and the driver the same person?

In Spain they are two different people. A licensed guide leads the visits, and a licensed driver handles the vehicle and the road transfers. Your licensed guide changes from city to city, so your guide in Seville differs from your guide in Ronda or Granada, and each one knows the town in depth. The driver stays with you on the road days from Seville to Ronda and from Ronda to Granada, and meets you at the station when you arrive in Seville. This split lets your guide focus on the site and your driver focus on the road. Where your dates allow, named specialists lead two of the visits: Israel at the Alhambra, and Ana, an art historian, at the Prado.

Which romantic touches fit this route?

The route already sets one shared moment in each base, and our team adds options around it where it suits the two of you. In Madrid, the rowing boat on the Estanque in El Retiro follows the Prado. In Seville, our team reserves seats at an intimate flamenco performance and, on request, a cooking lesson and lunch with a chef in Triana. In Ronda, the Puente Nuevo at dusk comes before dinner, and a winery visit in the Serranía de Ronda fills the second afternoon if you choose it. In Granada, a dinner table with a view of the Alhambra follows the sunset at San Nicolás. Tell your planner whether the trip marks a honeymoon or an anniversary, and our team lets your hotels know ahead of your arrival.

Is it possible to add Barcelona or Toledo to this route?

Yes, and the cleanest way depends on the days you have. Toledo fits as a day trip from Madrid, about 1 hour each way by road, with one extra night in the capital. Barcelona adds two nights and a direct flight from Granada of about 1 hour 30 minutes, and it turns the trip into twelve days. Couples who want both from the start often choose the Highlights of Spain 10-day tour, which covers Madrid, Toledo, Seville, Granada and Barcelona in ten days, or the 12-day private luxury tour of Spain, which keeps Ronda and adds Barcelona. This route stays in the south on purpose, for couples who would rather spend those days in Seville and Ronda. Your planner prices either change alongside the original route so you see both side by side.

How much walking does the route involve?

Most touring days run on foot through old quarters, with your licensed driver for the longer gaps. The Albaicín in Granada, the lane down to the Arab Baths in Ronda and the Alhambra involve cobbled slopes, and the Alhambra visit covers a large hillside site. The Giralda climb in Seville uses ramps rather than stairs, 35 of them, and it stays optional. Madrid’s Prado and El Retiro sit side by side on flat ground. Your guide is glad to advise on suitability before booking, and our team adjusts walking routes, adds vehicle time between sites, or shortens days where it helps. Our page on accessible travel in Spain sets out how our team plans for travelers who need step-free routes or extra support.

Who do we contact if something goes wrong or we want a change?

Your planner designs your journey with you and stays in touch after you land. For the fastest response at any hour, message your private WhatsApp group, where our 24/7 support team works alongside Rachel or Dan. Because we begin no more than five journeys per country each week, peak spring and fall dates fill early, and that limit is what lets us stay this close to every trip.

We keep a list of vetted four- and five-star hotels, well located and enjoyed by our past travelers and by our own team.
