Spain and Portugal, Planned Around You
Start planning
Spain and Portugal are Iberian cousins, sharing a peninsula and a long history, each with its own flavors, culture and food: flamenco and fado, tapas and petiscos, Rioja and Douro wines. A private tour of both works best over 14 to 18 days. Our routes link Barcelona, Madrid, Seville, Lisbon, Porto and the Douro Valley, and ten days covers Madrid, Seville and Lisbon. Private Spain and Portugal journeys start from $998 per person per day, based on double occupancy, excluding flights.

Start planningWhat is the best route through Spain and Portugal?
The route we recommend most often begins in Madrid, with the Prado and a day in Toledo. It continues south to Andalusia for Seville, the Alhambra in Granada and the Mezquita in Córdoba, then crosses into Portugal by road. Your driver takes you through the cork oaks and white villages of the Alentejo, or along the cliffs of the Algarve, to Lisbon and Sintra. In the Alentejo, wine lovers can add a private visit to Herdade da Maroteira, a family-owned estate on the slopes of the Serra d’Ossa. The journey ends in Porto, with a day or two among the terraced vineyards of the Douro Valley, and you fly home from Porto. Two countries, one logical line on the map, no backtracking.
The alternative flies into Lisbon and out of Barcelona, for travelers who want to begin with Portugal’s slower pace and build toward Barcelona’s energy. In Spain, a licensed guide meets you in each city and a licensed driver carries you between them. In Portugal, a licensed driver-guide takes the wheel and the storytelling.
Frequently asked questions about Spain and Portugal tours
How many days do you need for Spain and Portugal?
Plan 14 to 18 days to see both countries at a relaxed pace. Ten days covers Madrid, Seville and Lisbon. Three weeks adds Barcelona, the Basque Country and La Rioja, or an island such as Madeira or the Azores.
When is the best time to visit Spain and Portugal?
Late April to early June and September through October suit both countries best. Spain also travels well in late March and November. July and August bring strong heat to Andalusia and the Alentejo, so summer routes lean north, toward Porto, the Douro and the Basque coast.
How much does a private Spain and Portugal tour cost?
Private Spain and Portugal journeys start from $998 per person per day, based on double occupancy, excluding flights. Our 14-day journey from Madrid to Porto starts from $13,972 per person. Hotels use dynamic pricing, like airlines, so rates rise with demand, for example over Thanksgiving week. For the best value, choose January, February or early March.
How do you travel between Spain and Portugal?
Your private driver takes you across the border by road, most often from Seville into the Alentejo or the Algarve, with stops along the way. Where a flight saves a day, such as Barcelona to Lisbon, your planner books it and a driver meets you on arrival.
Can we add Morocco to a Spain and Portugal trip?
Yes. Morocco sits a short flight or ferry crossing from southern Spain. Our 16-day Spain, Portugal and Morocco journey starts from $15,968 per person, and every multi-country journey combines the three countries on a private basis.
